Parkhill, Smith & Cooper - East Building Expansion

This 6,900 square foot freestanding building is the second building on the campus of Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. Even though it is separated by a parking lot from the main building, the corporate theme is carried through to the new building through the use of shapes, texture, color and style, for both interior and exterior fenestration.
The building has been awarded a "LEED® Certified" rating by the United States Green Building Council. Materials, systems and products incorporating "Green" concepts were included throughout the building, as well as newly developed technology and materials. The building is serving as a learning center for staff, as well as a demonstration lab for clients and Texas Tech students. These "Green" systems and materials are identified and explained by way of "Green Facts" signage located throughout the building.
Some of the "Green" features included in the project are: exterior views for 90% of occupants, light control systems to sense occupancy as well as light levels inside the building to automatically control light levels, low-flow plumbing fixtures, waterless urinals, high efficiency mechanical systems and energy management systems that reduce energy use by 50% compared to base-line code requirements, drought tolerant landscaping that requires minimum water, low VOC finishes, and recycled materials contained in all elements of the building, including furnishings and finishes.
PSC took a multifaceted approach to storm water management for their new addition. Groundwater run-off, roof run-off, and mechanical unit condensate are all collected and stored in a 6,000 gallon, underground cistern. The harvested water provides drip irrigation to the green roof, as well as at-grade landscaping.
